Getting Sick

I started feeling sick on Saturday morning. Woke up with a sore throat, which is usually indicative of an upcoming cold. Started taking Sudafed cold medicine and ibuprofen with the hopes of stopping it before it turned into a full-blown cold. This usually works, but not this time. As I sit here typing this I'm suffering through a minor, but annoying cold.

Anyway, I finished up scenes 6, 7, and 8 of Mother In-Law Zombie this weekend. I found out halfway through scene 6 that my video monitor's calibration had gone out of whack at some point, so I had to recalibrate it and then go back through all of the scenes I'd done recently to make sure they weren't screwed up. Some minor tweaking was necessary, but nothing major.

We also screened the trailer and a few of the commercials (Pitt Waxx, Free Money, and "Leave the US to the Livin'") at Grasshopper's Urban 2 Suburban festival last night. It all got a good reception, and the trailer went over especially well as it always seems to do. This was a nice screening, because there were a lot of people in the audience that probably wouldn't have otherwise seen our trailer.

Tracey wasn't fond of my idea of showing the first act of the movie at Hondance. She says that a) we'll be showing too many "good parts", and b) if people don't like what they see, then that'll be less people that show up for the premiere. My response has been that a) the whole movie is "good parts", and b) we just have to have faith that it's a great movie and that people will want to see the rest of it after seeing the "teaser" at Hondance. So, unless Tracey comes up with a better idea, I think we'll still be showing the first act. Unfortunately, the festival is drawing near, and a decision will need to be made soon. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

Still sick, huh? I recommend eating ginger and drinking water with some lemon juice in it. ANd put extra pepper in your food.

As for the first act of the film being shown, that's a tough call. Remember when we saw the Savini film at HorrorFind last year? If anything, that convinced people to not see the film. If you're ultimately confident enough in your product, then I say let it shine. But I have a hunch that the producers of that flick had a similar idea about their film, only to see a steady stream of vacating people start walking out of the theatre fifteen minutes into the show...It's a gamble, regardless of how you feel about your own baby.

Yeah, still sick. It got worse last night, actually. I'm tired and didn't feel like writing a real entry today. Ibuprofen cold medicine seems to be working somewhat, but I'll try the extra pepper thing.

Steve, you've seen the first act, so you're just as qualified as Iam to decide if it should be shown. Probably moreso, because you're not as knee-deep in it as I've been. Keeping in mind that the version you saw didn't have any music or sound fx to speak of, what do you think we should do?

I'm also hoping that if we screen this, it'll get a lot of people to show up for the beginning of the festival who otherwise probably wouldn't have come until later.

But, whatever. I'm not 100% sold on the idea, so I'm open to suggestions. Maybe we could just show a scene from each segment, the trailer, and all of the commercials. Or something like that.

One thing I do know is that it's definitely WAY better than that Savini movie. That thing was terrible!

I think that it will do WONDERS for early attendance at the HonDance festival...There's already a ton of hype out there since the preview was unveiled.

We chatted briefly last night about splicing segments of the three different stories with commercials (or is that splicing the commercials with the three different stories?), and I think that'll be a good idea. It's a different format from the film itself, and people will know that when the movie premieres it will definitely be something different. I say go with that format.
